Maya : Week 9

Maya has made some new friends. We noticed her talking the other day, only to find out that she was talking to the animals on the moblie. She has been sleeping through the night (thank gawd) and going for the record for the most poopy diapers in a day. Maya looked at me today and smiled. I went back to work with a smile.

Orange Soy Ribs

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup fresh orange juice (+zest from orange)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar, or to taste
1 tsp ground cumin, or to taste
dash liquid smoke (optional)
pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
1 rack baby back ribs, cut into individual ribs

Directions:
1.Put ribs in a large sealable plastic bag.
2.In a bowl, mix together top five ingredients until sugar is dissolved. Taste and adjust seasonings and/or liquids. Goal is balace of flavors.
3.Pour marinade over ribs in bag and seal bag, pressing out excess air. Marinate ribs, chilled, turning bag every few hours. Marinade overnight.

Take ribs out and let stand to get room temperature, 30 minutes. Put oven rack in the middle position and preheat oven to 375 degress.

4.Transfer ribs and marinade to baking dish and arrange ribs in 1 layer.
5.Bake ribs, covered, for 30 minutes(option: 1 hour, if you have the time).
6.Uncover, turn ribs and bake another 30 minutes.
7.Remove ribs from marinade and broil ribs till edges char.

Note: When cooking uncovered, check to make sure the sauce does not over-thinken and burn. You can reduce marinade to use as a sauce while ribs broil. Instead of broiling, throw on the grill to finish.

Maya : Week 8

This picture is right before we were leaving to go to my company BBQ. We have not had any problems going out to places. Maya generally sleeps most of the time. Check out the Vans from uncle Charlie. Those kicks are so cool. Maya actually slept through the night on Saturday (6 hours!). She has developed what I like to call "Peanut Colon". It's like "Peanut Bladder", but out the other hole. She pooped 3 times in 10 minutes! She did smile on the last one.

Maya : Week 7

Maya behaved wonderfully today, for Pan's first Mother's Day. We started the day with Hummus Falaffel rolls at Mama's, then a trip to Fashion Valley Mall, where both Momma & Daughter checked out the Prada line of purses at various department stores. We ended the day with a Mother's Day Dinner at Flemings. Through it all, Maya never cried once. Never got fussy. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful and laid back baby. I only hope that she will not get her momma's fetish for Prada.

The Baby Poop Olympics

This morning at 3:45am while changing Maya's diaper, Maya sneezed and shot liquid poo across the bathroom. Like a Barry Bonds homerun, I knew it was a tape measure shot based on the noise. There was a trail poo 5 feet across the bathroom.

On my hands and knees wiping up the poo, I felt proud and amazed at Maya's newly discovered ability. I don't want to sound like one of those competitive parents, but my little girl got talent.

There has been some complaints at The Pan Breast Cafe. The wait time for service has been slow. The food "OK". Dessert has been lacking. Spit up has been high. Managment has been notified. Hopefully the problems will be resolved soon.

Maya : Week 5

Little Maya has taken to bathing. I guess she realizes she smells like a sweaty foot if we don't bath her. She has taken to it well. She is still growing at a amazing pace. Lotsa grunting and noises.
