Japan : January 2008 Sushi

Pan's father "Dubby", nickname given by Maya, tried to take us to this sushi place twice before on our previous trip. And twice they were closed. Located above a fish market near the Ofuna station.

The restaurant was made up of booths surrounding three sushi stations. A conveyor belt rotated plates of sushi.

Daily specials were up on a board, which also displayed pricing per plate.

Both Pan and Dubby took charge and began ordering in Japanese. I was not sure what was being ordered, nor did I care. I could tell Dubby was hungry and that only means lots of food was on the way.

Pan started with a crab soup.

I got the Oysters with ponzu, topped with green onions and daikon.

Maya got her new favorite Ikura (Salmon Roe), which she refers to as "Ball".

Ami Ebi (Sweet Shrimp)

Ark Shell Clam

Ika (Squid) topped with grated ginger

Seared Toro (Fatty Tuna)

A second type of Ika (Squid)

Sea Scallop

Uni (Sea Urchin)

Abalone

OO Toro (Fatty Tuna, the fattest part)

Mirugai (giant clam)

Seared Fatty Salmon, topped with shiso leaf and grated daikon

Seared Scallop and roe with butter and lemon slice

Buurrrrp! Hands down, one of the best meals for the money I have ever had. I can only imagine the damage I would have done in my younger years. I think everything totaled to be just around $80 U.S.

It is nice to see that Maya has a open palate. If its good, she'll eat it.

Pan better watch out, Maya will sooner over take her for the title of "Cleaner".

As I finish this post, my stomach is actually grumbling in hunger. It makes me sad to know that we can not get the same quality here in San Diego. [Gumble]

Winter in Japan

Due to unforeseeable family issue, we have had to make a quick trip back to Japan. It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks. It seems the older I get, the harder it is to recover from international travel. I got back last Friday and Pan and Maya get back this Friday.

Is there a worse airline than United? Unfortunately for us, whenever we fly JAL, we have to take United Airlines to San Francisco. Absolutely horrible. The only positive about United Airlines is that they are consistent. Consistently Horrible. Planes that are over-booked and bitter burnouts manning the counters.

Anycase, this was a doodle of my in Japan. It snowed the day I was leaving. Pan has the camera so I will post pictures soon.
