Thanksgiving
We took Maya on her first trip this Thanksgiving. With this being her first time on a plane and just getting over a double ear infection, we expected the worse. The trip started with a bus ride to the airport (above).
Like last year, we took the red eye. For the most part Maya did wonderfully. After some fussiness to start, Maya went right to sleep and slept most of the way.
Our first stop was to Savannah to see some old friends. We stayed at the Courtyard on Liberty Street. After checking in, it was off to Forsyth Park for some volleyball. As Cranson and I made our way to Forsyth Park, walking down the same streets we did many years ago, I realized, nothing has changed. The beauty of Savannah is that you can go back years later and everything is the same.
For those of you that dont know, volleyball at Forsyth Park is tradition for us. Weather in 90+ degree heat or 40 degree chill, we set up the net. The weather this day was glorious. Could not ask for better weather. Getting on the court, it was like old times again. "Old" being the key word here. Man, it was great to be out there playing ball.
Dinner was at Sushi Zen, another tradition. Although Yoshi was out of country, Amy came to visit us from the other restaurant. Not enough time, too many places to eat. Places missed, Hirano's, Vinnie's, Crab Shack, Rib Castle to name a few. At least I had a beer (and more) at Pinkie's. It was great to see Carol and MLenard.
For breakfast, we met DSiu at Huey's on the river. Started with beignets with powdered sugar and coffee and lotsa water. I had the Crab Cakes Egg Benidict with a side of Grits. This was so perfect after a night of drinking. The saltiness from the Crab Cakes and the richiness of the Hollandaise sauce.
It was really sad to leave. It was great to see everyone. Jono & Carmen & kids, Professor McKinnon and his wonderfully renovated home, T-Roy and Meg, DSiu and lastly my buddy Jan-no, I look forward to the single-maly we will be having over a game of backgammon next year. Hope I didn't leave anyone out.
Two regrets I have leaving Savannah on I-16. We forgot to get a couple of slices from Vinnie's for the road and I left my favorite red Adidas trucker cap at the hotel.
1 Comments:
I cannot believe you came to Savannah and didn't call me.
I'm crushed.
